Tennis: Another win against Woodcrest Christian 15-3 on Monday, October 6. The ladies will be home again on October 9 at 3:15 against Ontario Christian.  We are currently undefeated in league. Come out and support our team.

Volleyball: Congratulations to our ladies for their 3-0 victory against Loma Linda Academy in their first league game on October 7.

Cross Country: Our boys won 1st in their first league meet.  It's great running start to their season.

Our teams continue to best teams from schools that are far larger than we are.  That's Falcon determination and dedication.  We will keep you posted on future games.

Cheerleader News:

Congratulations to our Varsity Cheerleaders who brought home a First Place Camp Champ Trophy from UCSD this summer. They were the only squad that received a spirit stick every night and they also came home with the Top Spirit Award for the entire camp. They were recognized as a Superior squad and were invited to cheer at the Capital One Bowl later this season. They also received a third place trophy for their home pom dance.  Congratulations to Taylor Thompson for making UCA All Stars at camp this summer.

Congratulations to our Junior Varsity Cheerleaders who brought home a Second Place Trophy from UCSD this summer for their Home Pom Routine. They were the only squad that received a spirit stick every night and they also came home with the Top Spirit Award for the entire camp. They were recognized as a Superior squad and were invited to cheer at the Capital One Bowl later this season. Congratulations to LeAnn Smith and Marissa Tapia for making UCA All-Stars.  We are very proud of this year’s Junior Varsity cheerleading squad.

Expectations

Athletic Eligibility

1.    Aquinas High School exceeds the guidelines established by the CIF Blue Book. Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 for the previous grading period to remain eligible. In accordance with CIF, students who fall below 2.0 are placed on probation for one quarter.  Additionally, athletes must meet Aquinas eligibility requirements as follows:

a.        If GPA is below 2.0 in a quarter they are put on probation

b.        If GPA is below 2.0 following a probationary quarter they are immediately ineligible.

c.        If a student receives any “F’s” in any quarter they are ineligible to play.

e.       Pay $200 per student per year for the Athletic Participation and $100 per sport transportation fee.

2.        Students must exhibit satisfactory citizenship and conduct on and off the field.

3.        Students must observe all regulations outlined in the current addition of the CIF Blue Book.

4.        Students must pass a physical examination given by a medical doctor.

5.        Students must carry adequate insurance.

6.        Students and parents must sign and follow the “Parent/Player Agreement”.

Attendance

Illness, unexcused absence (including a suspension), or unexcused tardy on the day of a game will render the player ineligible to play on that day. An absence on Friday will render the player ineligible to compete in weekend events. Students absent or tardy from school may not participate in practice or contests unless the Dean of Students in conjunction with the Attendance Office has cleared them in writing. This clearance note must be presented to both your coach and the Athletic Director.

Boosters of Aquinas High School

Parent/Guardian(s) of students participating in sports are automatically included in the Boosters.  Once a student has been selected for any athletic team and placed on the official roster, that student’s family is responsible for the requirements as stated in the Financial Policies regardless of how long they participate. The requirements include performing ten (10) service hours per sport season and a $300 athletic fee

It is a direct violation of school policy and Diocesan accounting policies for any parent or school employee to place any order or make a financial obligation on the part of the school for any service or product, etc without a requisition and purchase order signed by the Assistant Principal for Finance. All team fundraisers are to be cleared in advance.  Donations and gifts are to go through the Development Office, without exception.

Insurance

Aquinas High School provides supplemental insurance coverage for physical injuries for all students. This coverage extends to all athletes except for tackle football. All football players must purchase additional mandatory coverage. Claim forms for any student injury are available at the Main Office.

Interscholastic Athletics Develops:

1.        An ability to keep sports competition in the proper Christian perspective.

2.        A desire to develop and properly use God‑given abilities.

3.        A willingness to accept responsibility both as an individual competitor and as a team member.

4.        A capacity for self‑discipline, vital to leading a Christian lifestyle.

5.        An ability to properly control emotions under stress.

6.        An appreciation of the efforts of others.

7.        A Christian environment of school and community, spirit and loyalty.

Responsibilities of Fans and Parents:

1.        Use announcements and posters that promote school spirit and values.

2.        Be a good host or guest at another school. Realize that your admittance is a privilege to observe a contest and support high school activities, not a license to verbally assault players, coaches or officials.  Be respectful during the playing of the national anthem, pre-game ceremonies, and half‑time activities.

3.        Follow directions of cheerleaders, officials and school security personnel.

4.        Stay away from the other school’s campus and facilities prior to and after athletic events (except on official school business). Any vandalism or destruction of another school’s property will subject a student to severe disciplinary action. Parents will be held financially responsible for any damage committed by a student.

5.        Parents should insist that sons and daughters adhere to the high standards of Gospel values on and off the playing field.

6.        Parents should support the school’s athletic program by participation in the Aquinas Booster Club and related events and by attendance at athletic contests.

All Student Athletes who intend to participate in athletics in college should see the Head Guidance Counselor for NCAA Clearing House Application Forms.
